Welcoming the ESBOA's new, online presence. We aim to make this website a valuable resource for our members and activists throughout the energy industry in Ireland as it develops over the next few months.
The re-development of the website is one of the key elements of reorganising how we as an organisation communicate effectively. For more information please visit the president's address above. If you have any feedback or queries please use the contact us form.

Founded in 1958 the ESBOA is a Trade Union operating in the Energy Sector in Ireland, currently representing approximately 1,700 workers in Ireland in the Electricity Supply Board, Endessa, Eirgrid and Airtricity.
At present we represent a wide range of categories, including clerical, administrative, managerial, sales and technical staff in the electricity industry.
ESBOA is affiliated to the ESB Group of Unions, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU), Public Services International (PSI) and the National Womens Council of Ireland.
Through these affiliations ESBOA has representation on committees encompassing, Equality (both at National and European level), Health and Safety in the Workplace, Disability issues, Solidarity with other Trade Unions world -wide and Womens issues (Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the National Womens Council of Ireland).
Treasa NiMhurchu,
President
I am proud and honoured to have been elected to be President of the ESBOA and thank you for placing your trust in me and giving me this opportunity. I will endeavour to use the experience and knowledge I have gained from my roles in ESBOA and in other National and European organizations for the benefit of all members.
We now face into a period of unprecedented challenges for ESB Group, the Energy Industry and Trade Unions in Ireland. In preparation to face these challenges some changes will be required of us as an organization. Thus, I will propose to the National Executive, to engage in a review of the structures of ESBOA in consultation with the membership. as wide a representation as will be required.
I look forward to a discussion with the membership as soon as is practical on the framing of this review, which will enable ESBOA to face into the future with a renewed vigour and strategic focus; maintaining the standards and conditions of employment of the membership and ensuring a quality service and as wide a representation as will be required. As in the past I have no doubt that ESBOA will steer a path through this difficult time and achieve the best outcome for members.
I would like to assure you, as a member of ESBOA that those who are charged with representing you are prepared for these challenges. I encourage you to take an active part in supporting your Delegate and your Union so we can face the future together as a strong united organization.
ESBOA Executive Delegates as activists, are the key to an effective organising strategy. ESBOA promotes and supports the valuable role our delegates have by ensuring they have access to training and development opportunities and quality advice and guidance. We have activists in each workplace who can:
Through the local Branch structures, encourage members to discuss the issues that affect them and in regular meetings with their Branches, coordinate collectively to guarantee success. Take up issues within the workplace on behalf of members. Represent members effectively at grievance and disciplinary hearings in the workplace.
Give the union a strong visible presence in the workplace and encourage active participation in the democracy of ESBOA. We are committed to building an activist network of both Geographical and Category Delegates who support each other and are at the centre of everything the union does.
